The Engagement Letter Analyst oversees the creation, negotiation, execution, and maintenance of the firm’s engagement letters. Essential job functions include:

  • Drafts and reviews engagement letters for compliance with Firm policies and legal requirements.
  • Reviews and analyzes existing engagement letters, identifying relevant issues of concern and addressing or escalating issues, as needed.
  • Reviews documentation and creates database records summarizing engagement letters and other client agreements, including Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs), to accurately reflect the engagement terms for clients; performs ongoing maintenance of related database, including escalation of outstanding records.
  • Serves as a resource and a central point of contact regarding engagement letters and information requests.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and summarizes provisions contained within engagement letters for reporting to others within the firm for record-keeping and decision making purposes. 
  • Handles multiple client engagement letter projects simultaneously, and works closely with management, partners, and other Firm stakeholders across departments as needed to achieve the firm's objectives.
  • Leverages available technology to assist in the analysis and maintenance of engagement letters.  
  • Support the Client Engagement Team in creating summary documents for Outside Counsel Guidelines. Ensure attorneys receive and acknowledge the guidelines. Assist in categorizing and tracking terms within OCGs and Engagement Letters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; J.D. preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in a large law firm setting, including a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience directly within engagement letters.
  • Knowledge of drafting and reviewing engagement letters, and responding to client and internal questions regarding such documents.
  • Knowledge of how a law firm operates, including awareness of the key elements in the relationships between a firm and its clients.
  • Computer proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required. Experience with InTapp Open and InTapp Terms strongly preferred.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete under time constraints.
  • Ability to perform effectively with moderate supervision and within established time limits and on-going deadlines.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally and provide exceptional service.
  • Ability to respond to requests requiring analysis and decision making for new clients/matter processing.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:

  • State of California: $73,000 - $140,000
  • State of Colorado: $67,000 - $120,000
  • State of Illinois: $66,000 - $128,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $79,000 - $144.000
  • State of Maryland: $71,000 - $107,000
  • State of Massachusetts: $73,000 - $140,000
  • State of Minnesota: $73,000 - $121,000
  • State of New York: $68,000 - $147,000
  • State of Washington: $71,000 - $135,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $94,000 - $139,000

The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
