Tycko & Zavareei LLP is looking for a dedicated Legal Assistant to join its Washington, DC team, on a hybrid basis, beginning February 2026. This is a full-time, non-exempt, long-term position which provides essential administrative support to attorneys, paralegals, and operational staff, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment and has exceptional organizational and communication skills.

Our Legal Staff: Our litigation support team, comprised of paralegal roles and this Legal Assistant position, is an essential cog in the firm’s operational wheel. These team members work closely with attorneys throughout all stages of litigation, from early case development through final resolution, while also providing simultaneous support across case teams and firmwide operations. They are highly efficient, exceptionally detail-oriented, and adept at juggling many tasks at once to keep matters and operations running smoothly.

The Legal Assistant is a hybrid junior paralegal / legal secretary role that provides enhanced administrative and clerical support to attorneys, paralegals, and internal departments, while also helping meet firmwide client-service needs. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the firm’s litigation matters and legal marketing efforts.
The Legal Assistant supports attorneys and paralegals across all stages of a case lifecycle and assists the firm’s business development and administrative functions. This is a high-volume, high-responsibility role best suited for someone who thrives in a busy professional environment, can juggle many requests at once, and remains calm, organized, and responsive under pressure.

Key Responsibilities & Exemplary Tasks: Responsibilities will vary day to day and may include, but are not limited to:
Litigation & Case Team Administrative Support
Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to litigation case teams
Prepare, draft, format, and proofread correspondence and basic legal documents
Assist with document organization, file management, and maintenance of electronic and physical case files
Support discovery efforts, including assisting with discovery productions and document review projects
Assist with court filings and related proceedings in state and federal courts
Send agreements, contracts, and other documents for electronic signature
Prepare time and expense reports and assist with basic billing and invoicing tasks
Coordinate courtesy copies, service logistics, and large print or binder requests
Run background checks and conflicts checks
Coordinate basic technology needs for meetings, filings, and presentations as needed
Schedule calls and meetings
New Business Intake & Case Investigations Support
Schedule intake calls between prospective clients and attorneys
Communicate directly with potential clients and send retention agreements as directed
Assist with early-stage case investigations, including factual and legal research
Monitor legal research platforms
Prepare agendas for and take notes during practice group meetings
Firmwide Phones & Client Intake
Serve as a primary contact for firmwide incoming calls
Respond to and route calls related to potential new matters, existing cases, settlements, advertising campaigns, vendors, media inquiries, court staff, and opposing counsel
Exercise sound judgment in triaging and directing inquiries to the appropriate internal stakeholders
Firm Operations & Administrative Support
Maintain firmwide resources and records, including firm resumes, proposal forms, case origination spreadsheets, and attorney CLEs, admissions, and awards
Assist with case opening tasks, including opening new matters, organizing and saving key case documents, and logging matter information
Provide operational support as needed, including assisting the Administrator with mail, organizing shared spaces, and firm events
Support HR-related administrative tasks as assigned
Legal Marketing & Business Development Support
Assist with maintaining firm websites and online presence
Support applications for firmwide awards and recognitions
Prepare and order business cards
Assist with social media marketing
Assist with administrative aspects of marketing and business development initiatives
Help prepare and proofread marketing materials, submissions, and correspondence
Required Qualifications:
Prior experience in an administrative or legal support role
Excellent writing, proofreading, and attention-to-detail skills
Strong research skills and comfort using a variety of research tools
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); familiarity with Adobe
Ability and willingness to learn new software systems quickly
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
Clear, professional communication skills across email, chat, and phone
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and remain composed in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility to work overtime on occasion
Unflappable professionalism and sound judgment
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Familiarity with Westlaw and PACER
Familiarity with state and federal court systems
Prior legal billing experience
Experience working in a small professional services office environment
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base Rate: $26.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on relevant experience
Overtime: Non-exempt position with time-and-a-half (1.5x) overtime pay as applicable
